Formerly known as North Springwood, the town received its new name in 1972 following a competition and “Winmalee” is thought to be named from an Aboriginal word meaning “in a northerly direction”.

The residential subdivision of farms spurred on the rapid growth of the area through the 1960’s and 1970’s. Growth again took place during the 1990s.

Winmalee has its own high school, primary school, shopping centre and churches making it fully self-sufficient. The town is also well serviced by local transport as many residents commute from Winmalee to Sydney on a daily basis. It is a great community to call home.
